This EP is brief, so I will be, too.
Zola Jesus resurrects the cold joy manifested in classic Cure B-sides like "A Few Hours After This" and "Breathe" by singing every word from her gut and marrying her Sioux-like vocals to warm yet icy synths, simple pop hooks and chord progressions, and mechanical beats.
By keeping it simple, and invoking some of the excellent founders of her particular genre, she delivers a heartwarming little collection for the person who feels coldly distant from everybody but fired from within by big emotions and a desire to connect and be at peace.
These songs are equally at home in the club, in your car, on your headphones, and alone in your room at the end of the night.
Plus, the packaging is beautiful. If you are griping about the cost, the beauty of this artistic package should console you. Then again, you should probably also stop feeling entitled to music for free or low prices if that previous sentence speaks to you.
Anyway, buy this and enjoy.
I first heard the song lightsick in a episode of Grey's Anatomy and I instantly fell in love with it. So I decided to download this whole albulm of 4 songs and I love the whole albulm! :)
