Wilson Phillips Album: “The Best Of”

Wilson Phillips Album: “The Best Of”
Description :
With harmonies reminiscent of the music of their famous musical parentage (the group featured children of members of the Mamas & the Papas and the Beach Boys), Wilson Phillips scored a bevy of hits as the '80s gave way to the '90s. This budget-priced EMI compilation tackles the whole of the threesome's career, including the #1 hits "Hold On," "You're In Love," and "Release Me."

- Smart idea for EMI to do this.

While some fans might irk at this idea, I like this album. Their best songs are well displayed here. This album shows more of Wilson Phillips' harmonies and their midtempo songs. They placed half from the 1990 album and half from the 1992 album on here. I thought that they would continue right after the second one--they'd be ten albums and many more platinum albums and hits later if they continued to stay together. But their new album "California" more than makes up for that long 12-year hiatus--I plan to get it soon. This album sounds good all the way through. They sell it for a low price in some stores, but the music is well worth it for that price. Very nice and gorgeous pop from these girls!

- an excellent collection

I'm not certain what inspired me to look up Wilson Phillips on Amazon. I suppose I wondered what happened to that early 90s trio. In any case I was pleasantly surprised to find The Best of Wilson Phillips. This CD really contains WP's best songs. If you're in the mood for some early 90s hits, The Best of Wilson Phillips is a nice choice.

- -And why would anyone purchase this if?????

-They could not listen to samples? I mean seriously, what makes a worthy purchase by a worthy group is being able to listen to a few samples...Shelve this one forever...

- Good music in a totally unnecessary collection

How can you buy a greatest hits album when 6 of the 10 songs are from the group's first album? (go figure, the other 4 are off their second, and only other, album). That being said, the music still sounds great, but with another greatest hits edition available (the other at least has some solo cuts from Chynna and the Wilson sisters, as well as a few remixes), and the girls only having produced two full length albums, you really have to wonder if this set is even close to necessary. I say "no", but if you're only going to get one CD from Wilson Phillips, I guess this could fill the bill. It just seems kind of wrong to me, and more marketing strategy than effort to give something to the fans.
