- Tom Jones Live!

Tom Jones "Live in Las Vegas" (from the Flamingo) is one of my favorite live vinyl recordings in my collection. This tunesmith's mix, on that album, of County-Pop-Soul that is backed by an equally impressive band never fails to thrill me. My vinyl copy of "Tom Jones Live" (from London's Talk of the Town) is not as great but can still be given 3 stars. I am not motivated to jump through hoops to transfer my vinyl stuff to my hard drive and then to a CD/MP3 player. Luckily this Las Vegas heavy "From Las Vegas to London" CD is now available and it combines much of the best from these two vinyl pieces of gold in my vinyl collection into one CD source. Tom is one of those performers that somehow is better "live" than in the studio. When I have been lucky enough to catch his live act I could feel his "joy of performing" in the air. His "recorded live" material exudes an indefinable excitement that is not somehow captured in the recording studio. Tom's recent cable gig (on the A & E special?) "Tom Jones - Live at Cardiff Castle" is just one more piece of evidence that my theory is correct. Besides his "joy of performing" I suspect it must be those great live rhythm and blues arrangements, added to that heavy horn section, plus Tom's blasting soulful voice that contribute to my enjoyment of his "recorded live" material. No Tom Jones fan should be without this CD.

- Great!!

This CD is a great find for real Tom Jones fans. If you liked the vinyl recordings of "Live In Las Vegas" at the Flamingo and "Talk of the Town" in London, you'll will love this CD. The music is great and Tom is his best in these live performances.

- What happened in Vegas!

Actually i would give this 3 and half stars because it was not Tom's best song selections to do live yet he still brings it with electricity and life and so since there is only one bummer (Bright lights and you girl) on the Cd it probably deserves 4 stars and for capturing the excitement of Vegas when it was truly an entertainers mecca. Oh these were the days when Vegas shined brighter and Tom was headlining with Elvis and Engelbert...Back when singers could actually sing without vocal enhancements and true live stage entertainers became legends like Tom amd Elvis and Engelbert...this Cd will give you a glimpse back into that time when things were so good.
