New Reviews: The BPA, The Von Bondies and Ben KwellerIt’s Tuesday, which means a fresh batch of albums at your local music store and new Rolling Stone record reviews ready to be read. This week’s new releases include the BPA’s I Think We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Boat, the brainchild of British DJ Norman Cook (you may known him as Fatboy Slim). Recorded with a variety of singers who stopped by Cook’s house for late-night sessions, the album features “tweaked-up period pieces from Sixties ska to Eighties R&B.” David Byrne, Dizzee Rascal, Iggy Pop and a handful of up-and-coming British singer-songwriters guest on the disc, which is anchored by highlight “Toe Jam.” Fatboy Slim recently discussed the Brighton Port Authority with Rolling Stone, calling it “Sort of like the Traveling Wilburys but good.” The Von Bondies also return after a long hiatus with Love, Hate and Then There’s You, the band’s first LP since 2004’s Pawn Shoppe Heart. In his review Christian Hoard describes Love, Hate as “an album that’s pop-friendly but raucous enough to park in a Motor City garage,” thanks to tracks like “She’s Dead to Me” and the Cheap Trick-ish “21st Birthday.” Ben Kweller also gets down with his Texas roots on his new country-tinged album Changing Horses. In his three-star review of the album, Will Hermes write that “Sawdust Man” is “a roadhouse blues with a chorus (’I'm on top of the Greyhound station/Won’t you pleeeeeease come home’) that sounds like Harry Nilsson and John Lennon on a bender circa Pussy Cats.” For more on Kweller, the Fray and many more of the week’s best releases, check below: • The BPA - I Think We’re Gonna Need A Bigger Boat • The Von Bondies - Love, Hate and Then There’s You • Ben Kweller - Changing Horses • Dierks Bentley - Feel That Fire • The Fray - The Fray • The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Lonely Road • Trouble Andrew - Trouble Andrew • The Bad Plus - For All I Care

R. Kelly Sex Tape Will Be Shown During Trial, Another James Brown Child Identified, R.E.M. To Release Live CD/DVD The judge overseeing R. Kelly’s child pornography trial has confirmed the public will be allowed to see the controversial videotape that allegedly shows the singer having sex with — and urinating on — a minor because the girl in question denies she is the girl who appears on the tape (as does Kelly). The judge said he’d consider overturning his decision if the prosecution calls the girl as a witness. Kelly’s trial begins September 17th, almost five years and twenty-two chapters of “Trapped in the Closet” after he was first slapped with child pornography charges. Ongoing DNA tests following James Brown’s death have revealed the late singer has another child; three weeks ago two more of his children were identified. My Chemical Romance, All-American Rejects, Daughtry, Big & Rich and Gretchen Wilson have been announced as opening acts for Bon Jovi’s ten-date residency in New Jersey this fall. Dates for the shows, which will inaugurate the new Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, after the jump. As various digital music services experiment with DRM-free releases to compete with iTunes, Black Eyed Peas‘ will.i.am has decided to jump into the fray. He’ll launch a digital music store on August 28th on his Web site to coincide with the release of single “I Got it From My Mama” to sell his own copyright-protection-free tracks. R.E.M. will release a live CD/DVD titled R.E.M. Live CD/DVD on October 16th, which will feature their performance at Dublin’s Point Theatre on February 27, 2005, two years before the band returned to the city to test-drive songs for a still-forthcoming album. Click here to see the DVD’s trailer, and get the tracklisting after the jump. What 'Lost' Donkey Wheel Do We Need To Turn To Make 'The Fray' Disappear? [Lost]newVideoPlayer("/lost_promo_2.flv", 506, 423,""); Because when it comes to melodramatic Lost promos set to the essential catalogue of The Fray—the soundtrack of our lives, really—too much is never enough, we bring you the seventh Lost trailer, featuring some rearranged footage you've already seen and that song you love so much! (This one doesn't actually feature the band, though fret not: We understand they do crash land on the magically reappearing island, where they are swiftly put to work putting out a subpar Nickelback single every 108 minutes—or everything will explode!) In case you've forgotten where we've left off last season, giant, swooshing intertitles helpfully remind us that "6 WERE RESCUED...THE REST...WE HAVE NO F&*%@ING CLUE BUT HOPEFULLY WE'LL GET THAT SORTED OUT." Needless to say, we're so there—hairy-chested Jack or not. [Lost]
