The Four Seasons Album: “Big Girls Don't Cry & 12 Other Hits: Original Clas”
Description :
The Four Seasons: Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito, Nick Massi.

Recorded in 1963.

The Four Seasons' 1963 third album is typical of its (pre-Beatle) time, in that it's arranged to center around a hit or two, including one from a previous album. The brash, strengh-in-adversity anthem "Walk Like a Man" and the recycled "Big Girls Don't Cry" are innovative reworkings of the East Coast harmony-vocal style as well as clear signposts toward the pure-pop ear candy the Seasons and genius producer/songwriter Bob Crewe would pursue down the road. The rest is a mixture of originals by Crewe, '50s doo-wop tunes the group had cut their teeth on (Frankie Lymon's "Why Do Fools Fall in Love?"), and pre-rock standards like "Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo." The group's singing, of course, is glorious throughout.

- Neo-Doo Wop and Backseat Favorites
This has the Jersey Boys hits "Walk Like A Man" and "Big Girls Don't Cry" and some primo renditions of do-wop/hopsock favorites done with the same Four Seasons flair...that's not surprising since Bob Gaudio, whose hit "Short Shorts" with the Royal Teens, and Nick Massi, who was some kinda underrated, unassuming music Midas himself, had a lot to do with the early FV/FS sound. "Goodnight My Love" and "Since I Don't have You" are my favorites on this, but "Silhouettes" and "Alone" are some good ol' tunes, too...for those who may be in that same quantum pocket I'm in--these were gleaned from recordings during the Season's VeeJay (vinyl) records years. They may be out there, but the best fit to this in vinyl would be the Philips Records product "Looking Back" (circa '67 or '68). The cover to that has the Jersey Four walking down train tracks appearing as if they have a long journey ahead of them.

- THEIR SIGNATURE SOUND CONTINUES!
This is the re-issue of an original L.P. of the mid 60's.
These recordings still reflect the Four Season's eariler sound and Doo Wop influnce.
The hits and b-sides that are here are:
1. "Big girls don't cry" 1962.
2. "Walk like a man" b/w "Lucky ladybug" 1963.
3. "Goodnight my love", a b-side in 1964.
4. "Alone" 1964.
5. "Sincerely" 1964.
This is a keeper more for album cuts, rather than hits,
which can be aquired elsewhere.
Still displaying here their 'signature' sound, this album is a treat.
In later 60's releases they have moved away
from their original Doo Wop style and sound.
Their later music, even though it is excelent,
does not have the POP (literally) and playfullness of these earlier recordings.
The Four Season's bring new life here to some classic's.
This is a great album of their signature sound.
All original recordings re-issued. Produced by Curb records in 1995.
The c.d. sounds excelent. No liner notes, only the track listing.
This vol 2 can be found on a twofer, coupled with vol 1.

- The Four Seasons Score . . . As Always
Great! I love to hear the Seasons' versions of such classics as "Sincerely," "Tonite Tonite," and all the others, plus their original hits such as "Walk Like a Man" and "Big Girls Don't Cry." This will be a gem to add to your Four Seasons library!
