The Four Seasons Album: “Sherry & 11 Other Hits: Original Classics Collecti”
Description :
The Four Seasons: Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito, Nick Massi. <p>The Seasons' 1962 debut album is typical of its (pre-Beatle) time, in that it's based around a hit or two, with the rest being more or less filler - either contemporary pop songs like "Never on Sunday" or pre-rock standards like "Yessir That's My Baby" (here done in slowed down, hilariously ripe doo-wop style). The group's singing, however, is glorious throughout, and the album's two hit singles--"Sherry" and "Big Girls Don't Cry"--are innovative reworkings of the East Coast harmony vocal style as well as clear signposts toward the pure-pop ear candy the Seasons and their genius producer Bob Crewe would pursue down the road.

- Classic 4 Seasons

I have the hits on other compilation CD's so that wasn't what I was after when buying this CD. I remember hearing the song "Apple of My Eye" on the radio when I was a kid and wondered why they never put that song on any of their greatest hits collections. It was a hit of their's before they were known as the 4 Seasons and then recorded again when they became the 4 Seasons. It wasn't any kind of big hit for the group but I always wanted that obscure single on a collection. I finally bought this CD for that song and am very happy to have the entire CD now. These are all great recordings by Frankie and the guys and certainly bring back memories of happy times. This is a CD you can put in the car, occasionally and drive down the highway with a smile on your face as you sing along with familiar songs and one of the all time great groups in the USA. Great stuff!!!!

- THEIR SIGNATURE SOUND! a delightful album.

Here is the sound that made the Four Seasons famous!

Lead singer Frankie Valli is at his best here

in this original early 60's L.P., re-issued.

Their early recordings contain a strong Doo Wop flavor

that dissappeared about the time the of the British invasion.

This album is notable for that reason,

and for the album cuts that don't seem to be any where else.

Three charted songs are here, and one b-side:

1. "Apple of my eye" b/w "The girl in my dreams".

("Apple of my eye" is the 1964 re-recorded version of "You're the apple of my eye".

Originally recorded by the them in 1956 as The Four Lovers.

2. "Sherry", 1962.

3. "Big girls don't cry", 1962.

The 2nd and 3rd songs can be found many places,

it is the rest of the album that is special for the fun-loving album cuts.

THIS is their "signature" sound, THIS is what I loved about them when I first heard them,

and it is a treat to have one of my all time favorite l.p.s on a c.d.

Here are some light-hearted tunes that will lift your spirits.

You can't help but smile with their rendition of,

"Yessir that's my baby"

"La Dee Dah"

"Apple of my eye"

"Never on sunday"

"I can't give you anything but love"

With their fun-loving approach the Four Seasons have

transformed these classic's into a most enjoyable listen.

Nicely presented, but no liner notes.

The sound is excelent original recordings.

Re-issued by Curb Records in 1995.

Footnote: The "Big girls don't cry, and 12 others, Vol 2" c.d.

is similar flavor to this album, and is also a good listen.

Vol 1, and Vol 2 have been combined on a twofer which is an even better value,

and better listening pleasure to have all 25 tracks in a row.

Great early 60's music!

- 4 Seasons

Sherry & 11 Others by The Four Seasons is 29 minutes and 42 seconds and was re-released in 1995. The album was originally released in 1962. Just got done listening to the CD and I wish it had more of the classics on it. Most of these songs I never heard of and never knew they sang them. I am giving Sherry & 11 Others by The Four Seasons an AAA+++.
