Análisis (en inglés) - :
{^Unsurpassed Masters, Vol. 3} examines several recording sessions for {^Surfer Girl} -- the {$Beach Boys}' third LP in less than two years. After having several national hits, {$Brian Wilson} now takes increasing control over the production values and arrangements concerning the band. The net results are evident in the quality of the sides {$the Beach Boys} were issuing. Even decades removed, the complexity of these "pop" songs remains astonishing. This volume of {^Unsurpassed Masters} combines session tapes and alternative mixes for most of the songs used on {^Surfer Girl}, duly commencing with a stunning stereo version of the title track. The cuts benefiting most from these overhauls include well-known classics such as {&"Catch a Wave"} and a jaw-dropping {&"In My Room"} -- arguably the highlight of this entire volume. Of the remaining 11 tracks, only {&"Surfers Rule"} and {&"Boogie Woodie"} are represented by recording session outtakes. The other tracks are offered in remixed versions of the album master. These alterations might take on the form of "karaoke mixes" where the vocal tracks are simply wiped away. Or perhaps, the songs are radically rebalanced to present it in an otherwise unique manner. The deeper album cuts also contain notable differences, especially those with alternate endings or fade-outs -- such as {&"Your Summer Dream."} {&"Run Around Lover"} -- presented here in both a vocal and instrumental or "karaoke mix" -- is not a {$Beach Boys} song. It was written for and is performed here by vocalist {$Sharon Marie} whom {$Brian Wilson} was producing. Likewise, {^Surfer Girl} is the first long-player on which {$Wilson} took the necessary steps to incorporate professional session musicians rather than his fellow {$Beach Boys}. On these sessions, percussionist {$Hal Blaine} can clearly be heard counting off the musicians. {Wilson}'s decision would best serve the music. The evidence is available throughout the volume. ~ Lindsay Planer, All Music Guide
