- The Mexican Wants To Dance...

Thalia has been a household name in the spanish community now for almost 2 decades, it wasn't until the last 3 spanish efforts under EMI records and Emilo Estefan's and Estefano's production and direction that Thalia started charting with intensity. The english effort, released under Virgin Records, is mediocre to say the least. I am a huge fan of Thalia's, and I was fortunate enough to have seen her twice, and met her once. She is a pleasant being with unique capabilities, but she fails to demonstrate that originality in the english debut. I would go as far as to say that she is somewhat of a spanish Madonna for the latin community, she reinvents herself and always surprises fans with new sounds and experimentation. On the 'Thalia' album she sounds packaged. "I Want You" is forgetable, and designed for mainstream. The second single, "Baby, I'm In Love" is slightly above average, the radio mix version on the commercialy released single is far better than the original album version. "Misbehavin'" is an enjoyable track, just redundant. I am not a fan of "What's It Gonna Be Boy?", as it sounds too manufactured and lacks substance in vocals. The third single "Don't Look Back", which went top 10 on the club charts, as well as "Save The Day", "The Mexican (Dance Dance)" & "Closer To You" are a breath of fresh air, as they sound like the Thalia i am used to, and they are the best piece of original work on the album, "Another Girl" is a cliche to say the least, and "Tu Y Yo" was not destined to be re-recorded with the english tongue. Overall if you are a fan of Thalia, you will find something worth listening to, if not I would advise her spanish "Greatest Hits" album, "Thalia" [2002 Spanish Album]or "Arrasando".

- Identity crisis?

I cannot begin to tell you how surprised I was to see that Thalia was releasing an English language cd. My surprise was to find a weak, rushed, boring material with lack of originality. The first single is a song that dissapears as soon as you hear it, it doesn't stick to you, it doesn't offer anything from her, vocally, lirycally, she sounds like a cheap copy of Jennifer Lopez. And out of the 14 songs only 8 are new material the rest are translated or remixes from Spanish songs. The rest of the songs are horrible, I have to be honest, I thought coming with the intentions of making a crossover this cd shoud've been carefully produced and arranged. Thalia is not original and here is why: out of her 10 cds, 5 have been called "THALIA" and since 2000 she has released 5 cds, you read it right 5 (cinco) cds!!!!; she is killing her audience because she doesn't give them a break, this shows a state of desperation from both the artist and the company. She doesn't tour, she does not know how to work the public, she has no vocal ability whatsoever to make her sound unique; and most importantly the word Crossover does not mean that you sing in a different language and that's it!, crossover means winning a foreign audience, people that normally wouldn't know who you are, Thalia has no cross-over. Her recent TV appearances show poor English and lack of imagination.

As a Mexican singer, she does not offer anything from that side of the world, actually she looks and sounds like "a ghetto wanna be kindda girl".

Please do your selves a favor don't contribute to more artists like this.

- Stick To Spanish

I really dislike this CD (Ok, ok she is better then Paulina Rubio in English (Paulina is today's WORST singer, Brittney and Justin included)). There is no heart to this CD, just more dance tracks like JLO does. There are a few singers who can crossover into different genres and still be good: Shania Twain, Shakira, Linda Ronstadt, and of course, Elvis come to mind. Thalia is not on that level, she should do songs with meaning such as "Rosalinda", as opposed to "Another Girl", which could be called "Another Girl SINGER" because there is nothing to differenciate Thalia from anyone else. If anyone who is unfamiliar with Thalia, and wants to listen to her, go get "Arrasando" and enjoy it. PS: You can still love it without understanding Espanol (I don't understand it either), but it is a great listen.

- Good, but somethings missing.

Thalia's first English Language has all the makings of a hit record. Her sexy, breathy vocals will fit right in with the company of Jennifer Lopez and Ashanti. She infuses latin with a little bit of hip hop/rock/and pop, but unfortunatly there isn't anything groundbreaking or too exciting here. For all I know, this could have been the the next J-LO record, especially first single I Want You with guest rapper Fat Joe. There are a few great songs on the album. Thalia rocks out a bit on the track Baby I'm in Love, her vocals are the strongest here, aided by slick production, The Mexican (Hex Hector Remix) is a fantastic dance club anthem, and the funky r&b flavored What's It Gonna Be Boy?, which could be a smash at radio. Other tracks just seem to fall to the wayside because they sound too much like other songs we have heard before such as Misbehavin, Another Girl, and Closer To You, and Thalias breathy, yet likeable vocals can't compensate for the lack of originality in the songs. Overall a good album, with some good songs, but nothing too memorable.

- Well...

In my opinion, THALIA is a great , talented artist. This cd is average. She's very hip-hopish it's ok, songs are very powerful, but when I'm listening to it, I feel that something's missing... Thalia can really sing, she's great at it. Nobody can say, that she's a bad singer. If you don't believe, listen to her older tracks like "la vie en rose (life as a rose)", "no hay que lloral (why do I cry)", or No me ensenaste.

1. Don't look back (Toda la felicidad) - my favorite, very happy song, should be 4th single
