Radiohead Announce Vague European Concert Dates, Birdman Speaks on Weed Bust, Warner Music Profits Drop Radiohead have begun announcing European tour dates. Kind of. According to their newly resurrected Tour page, in June they will play shows in Dublin, Paris and a handful more cities. Except they haven’t specified which days they will play, or what venues. Besides their previously announced German festival dates, there are two other shows set in stone: June 18th at the Civica Arena in Milan, Italy and Denmark’s Roskilde festival in July. Can vague U.S. dates be close behind? Weird sample alert: Solange Knowles will use a clip by IDM icons Boards of Canada on her next album. Cee-Lo, Lil Wayne and Q-Tip will also guest on the record, which officially makes Solange the coolest member of the Knowles tribe. Are you so audiophile that vinyl records and 320kbps MP3s can’t even appease you? Be the first person on your block to join the Tape Project, a subscription service that sends you tape-to-tape albums for the iTunes-crushing price of $125 a piece. Now, good luck finding an actual tape-to-tape player. Warner Music Group announced that they posted a fifty-eight percent drop in quarterly profit. Fingers were instantly pointed at the lack of compact discs being sold in the U.S., as well as internationally. On the plus side, digital sales were up twenty-five percent, but that didn’t offset the losses stemming from the CD decline. The Birdman has clarified his side of the recent Cash Money marijuana bust, claiming the “pound” of weed the police found was actually just a “misdemeanor amount” that a drug-sniffing dog found in the garbage. As for the firearms, Birdman says, “The guns we had were good. I do carry a gun and I am licensed. Tennessee is one of the states I can tote in.”

by: Linda Hobbs A friend close to rapper Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and singer Beyoncé Knowles has confirmed to VIBE today that the couple officially married on April 4 in TriBeCa at the rap star’s apartment. The source says it was a symbolic gesture connected to their birthdays. “Jay’s birthday is on December 4 and Beyoncé’s is September 4, so that played a huge part in the wedding happening that day,” the source said. At a Greensboro, N.C., show on Saturday, April 5, Mary J. Blige gave the two a congratulatory shout-out. “Congratulations to my man Jay-Z,” Blige gushed. “And my girl B.” The Daily News reported that Blige proceeded to perform her classic Method Man duet, “I'll Be There For You/You're All I Need To Get By,” which kept naysayers endlessly wondering: Are Jay and Beyoncé married? Rumors about a possible wedding started with People.com claiming Jay and Beyoncé had filed for a marriage license last Tuesday. “Jay wanted it to be a really private affair—close friends and family,” an anonymous source said about the wedding. People.com reported the couple took out a marriage license in Scarsdale, N.Y. The license is valid for 60 days. Last week, the Daily News reported that Jay-Z met with Beyoncé’s younger sister Solange in Miami to discuss popping the big question, while Beyoncé was in New Jersey filming Cadillac Records, a movie about the legendary Chess Records. Sources say the mega-mogul star discussed breaking the news to Beyoncé’s dad/manager, Matthew Knowles. Jay-Z, 38, and Beyoncé, 26, have long been silent about their six-year relationship. Even when prodded by Oprah during a 2003 episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, Beyoncé kept mum. No confirmation from Jay or Beyoncé reps has been released yet, but VIBE will keep you posted on this story as it develops. Beyonce, Foo Fighters RSVP for Grammy Awards Following speculation that they wouldn’t attend this year’s Grammys out of respect to the WGA strike, both Foo Fighters and Beyoncé issued statements yesterday confirming that they will attend the February 10th event, regardless of the status of the strike. As both musicians are members of the Screen Actor’s Guild, a brother union that is standing alongside the writers, many questioned whether they would cross the picket line. “Beyoncé, as well as my other artists Solange and Trinitee 5:7, have been asked to participate and will do so. We have an incredible Beyoncé performance that will be announced soon. We wish the Grammys the best,” said Beyoncé’s father/manager Matthew Knowles. “There’s no question that the Grammys are a highlight of every year for the industry and audiences alike, and we’re thrilled that the Foo Fighters will be performing on the show,” said the Foos manager Jon Silva. Dave Grohl also defended his participation in the My Grammy Moment contest, saying that it will generate “opportunities to write, compose, play and study music — skills that absolutely need to be passed on to generations to come.” John Legend also confirmed his involvement with the event. The singer will play an acoustic concert aboard a Grammys-branded airplane for fifty to sixty winners of a CBS-backed sweepstakes. Winners will fly from New York to Los Angeles for the ceremony, with Legend providing the in-flight entertainment. Meanwhile, the WGA strike may have taken a step towards resolution yesterday as the studios and the Director’s Guild of America came to terms on a new three-year contract, making the dispute with the Writer’s Guild the main focus. Has Pop Music Murdered Jack and Jill? Can Beyoncé’s Family Rescue Them?According to a British survey, the traditional nursery rhyme is in danger of extinction. The cause: popular music (duh). Instead of soothing their children with rhymes like “Jack and Jill” and “Humpty Dumpty,” parents are singing pop songs and TV themes to their tykes instead. And lullaby versions of pop tunes like the Rockabye Baby series aren’t helping either. Evidently, they’re causing the line between pop music and the stuff parents play for their kids to get even more obscure. Enter Beyoncé’s crew: Her father and sister, Solange (who’s a new mom), are launching Baby Jamz, a hip-hop-inspired pre-school toy line, which includes a disc called Nursery Rhymes Volume 1 featuring hip-hop adaptations of “This Old Man,” “Old MacDonald” and “Skip To My Lou.” Photo: Ivan / CTK / Camera Press/ Retna

Behind the Scenes at Grammys: Paramore, Beyonce, Mika, Aretha Franklin, More The red carpet at the Grammy Awards this year was a bit like a bad acid trip: 500 feet of crimson carpet, a group of scary-looking Sgt. Pepper’s dancers with freaky makeup, an Amy Winehouse lookalike working for the TV Guide Channel and bleachers packed with crazed fans singing every song by the artists that came their way. Rock Daily spied Yoko Ono going in for a photo op with Beyoncé (but at the last second Solange jumped in to pose with her big sister instead), and Paramore singer Hayley Williams, who was the happiest girl on the carpet. “It’s an honor. I’m nervous. I’m worried I’m gonna trip because I don’t wear heels,” she said. Williams noted that she didn’t toss a few back to loosen up. “I don’t drink, but that’s okay. When we started touring, I wanted to be cool so I drank when we were overseas, but it doesn’t appeal to me.” Maynard James Keenan of Tool was pretty damn sure that his band wouldn’t be coming home with the Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance. “Nope. Foo Fighters will get it,” he said. “I hear they are performing with an orchestra. That’s gonna be amazing. I came for the fiftieth [anniversary of the Grammys],” he added. “This is my first time here.” The Plain White T’s worked the carpet with the Delilah, who’s an Olympic hopeful, and told us they’re recording their next album in April and shooting for a September 2008 release, while the extremely tall Mika revealed he’s somewhat inspired by prostitutes. “You know a lot of my lyrics are twisted,” he insisted. “I have a song called ‘Lollipop’ that four-year-olds sing, but the truth of the matter is it’s about a hooker. I would come across them at three o’clock in the morning coming out of the studio in Miami.” Akon announced he was hoping for “a hotel room full of ‘em” after the awards. Full of what, we naively asked. “Women!” he replied. The more wholesome Ne-Yo, who was up for five Grammys, wasn’t worried that having his

Solange Knowles discusses marriage and motherhoodR&B singer Solange Knowles spoke with Essence.com recently about motherhood, marriage, and business. Solange, 21, admitted she and her high school sweetheart, Daniel Smith, divorced, but they are committed to their son, Daniel Julez, 3. Well, I am no longer married, but I think it’s very important not to dish details. We are friends and we coparent our son. When he gets older I don’t want him to read anything about me saying anything about his father or vice versa. When there’s a child involved I think the less information given is best. When asked about Julez, Solange bragged he is wonderful, amazingly sharp child: He’s more than talking and has a smart mouth already. He’ll be 3 this month.Solange believes Julez will go into show business, like his mom and Aunt Beyonce. Unfortunately, it seems like something he’s interested in. He really likes the limelight.Solange also discussed her newest business venture, Baby Jamz, a hip-hop line of children’s toys available exclusively at Wal-Mart. Baby Jamz is a passion project for me inspired by my son, who loves hip-hop music. I wanted to do a children’s album, which I talked about in the media a couple of times. This toy company that wanted to launch an urban toy line reached out to my father about me. I ended up giving them a lot of ideas and became an executive on the account. I had to go to Bentonville, Arkansas (Wal-Mart’s headquarters), put on my suit and make this presentation. It was really cool for me and good training as an executive.Solange hopes to release her second album, Solange & The Hadley Street Dreams, in the near future. Source: Essence
