- Surprisingly good

Like most people I didn't expect to fall in love with Paris Hilton the person, let alone Paris the album. And, like some, I decided to purchase her debut album upon its release with the sole purpose to see how horrific it'd be--and, surprisingly, found it decent and likable. Her tropical-sounding first single "Stars Are Blind" sounded all right but it was after hearing "Nothing In This World" (and seeing the hilarious video to it as well) that helped me get over that "Eh!" feeling I got whenever I heard about Hilton in the news. Is she a good singer? She's capable--at least ON RECORD. Are her singing abilities on this song suspiciously overprocessed? The answer is a big yes. But is the song good? HELL YEAH! Like I said, I'm not big fan of Paris the person but this single is self-indulgent and a guilty pleasure nonetheless. The remixes (for the most part) enhance this disco-infused track even more for the clubs, but personally I like the original the best. So surprise, surprise! Shockingly good, Paris!

- a tasty pop track gets even better...

Those people who actually gave the Paris Hilton CD a close listen have discovered that it is just an awesome pop dance collection like something Britney Spears would put out. And, other than the remixes for the lead off single "Stars are Blind", the remixes have been perfect, taking the tracks to new levels. The winners here are the Jason Nevins mix, which is really just somewhat of an 'extended' version of the original, with a slightly harder edge, and the Dave Aude mix which gives the song a great retro-80s synth pop feel. You'll recognize an ode to The Cure's "Just Like Heaven" in the synth line, and pay attention to the bassline--and then start singing the chorus of Anything Box's "Living in Oblivion" and you'll discover you've just created a HOT mashup....
