The maxi-single of "My All" is amazing. I reccomend it to Mariah Carey collectors and people who don't own the "Butterfly" album, but want to get a feel for it, because this maxi-single is more of an EP than a single.
1) MY ALL (ALBUM VERSION) - Mariah's best song ever. Her voice has so much emotion that the singer knows how she is feeling. I love the quitar and the spanish tone to it. Mariah doesn't oversing either. It sounds perfect.
2) MY ALL (CLASSIC CLUB MIX) - This is an amazing club remix. This shows how "My All" can easily be turned into a dance remix. You can't even tell that it was a slow song. The beat is very infectous, and Mariah's added vocals make it what it is.
3)BREAKDOWN (The Mo' Thugs Remix) - I don't know why sony didn't promote this song as much as they could, this is one of Mariah's most creative efforts to date. It sounds a lot like Bone-Thugs "Tha Crossroads". Mariah sings with a quiet tone voice through the first half of the song, which suits the song so well. Then Bone Thugs N' Harmony show their unique rap talents in the rap part. Then Mariah belt's out the adlibs at the end during the choruses. The difference between this version and the "Butterfly" album version, is that There is an extra Bone-Thugs part at the beginning, and an extra rap part after the original rap part. Also, the song ends at full volume, while the album version fades out. Everything else is identicial to the album version.
4)THE ROOF (MOBB DEEP MIX) - Again, I don't know why sony didn't promote this song as much as they could. This song is really something. It samples Mobb Deeps, "Shooked Ones Pt.II", which explains their appearance on this song. Mariah took that sample and added violins, piano, bells and city noises throughout the whole song. She sings in falsetto for this song only rasing her voice a few times. It suits the song, and it shows Mariah's telents as a songwriter. The beat is very heavy, and catchy. Mobb Deep gives a rap part, and rap a few adlibs throughout the song. Everything else about the song, is identical to the album version. This is definetely a Mariah that we don't see very often, where she shows her non-artificial, smooth and sexy side, that we saw during her "Butterfly" period. The song is about a roof-top encounter, and it's truly one of Mariah's best performances ever. It goes beyond her voice. Also, the video is really hot.
5) FLY AWAY (BUTTERFLY REPRISE) (FLY AWAY CLUB MIX) - This is an extended mix of the "Butterfly Reprise" on the "Butterfly" album. Which is a dance remix of her song "Butterfly". It is just like the album version but it has a lot more parts with just music. Mariah's voice sounds amazing. She does high notes and adlibs and her backup singsers belt out the chorus of "Butterfly". The piano and the beats together sound amazing, which further sohws how Mariah enriched the remix scene. This song samples Elton John's "Skyline Pigeon".
***As you can see, this is a very versitile single, where you get dance, adult contempoary, R&B, and hip-hop. It's almost like a mini-version of the "Butterfly" album, sicne 3 of the songs are barely altered versions of songs from the album, and one of the songs is taken straight from the album. So, if you have the "Butterfly" album, this may not be of use to you, but if you don't THEN GET THIS SINGLE!! Also get it if you are a die hard fan of Mariah. This is the reason why "My All" went to No.1 on The Billboard Hot 100. And this is the Mariah, where she was being herself and where she hit her creative peak.
The album version of Carey's hit is as routine as most of her ballads, but the 9:06 long "Classic Club Mix" and the almost ten-minute long "Fly Away (Butterfly Reprise)" can make even the residents of "FOREST LAWN" get up and "shake a leg".
Mariah's hit single "My All" is a great song with extra tracks, such as "The Roof (Mobb Deep Mix)," "Breakdown (Mo' Thugs Remix," and a few others. The Breakdown remix is great! Mariah's vocal's combined with that of Bone-Thugs and Harmony is out of this world! This is a great single, which is very hard to find nowadays considering there was only a small amount made when the single was released in 1998. If you are a fan a remixes from her notorious "Butterfly" album, then this is one for you. (There is a total of 5 songs on this single.)
Great songs for just about anyone no matter what your music taste. Easy lyrics to understand and swallow but deep enough to make you feel sad. Good addition to your music library.
This is a superbly written and produced ballad. About being lonely and only wanting that special person to be in your life and sharing your love with each other...
Worth the price (0.01) they're asking you and definitely worth the shipping price (2.98) for a total of less than 3.00.
Love you, Mariah.
