Weekend Rock List: Cold Songs It figures that the week we put a band called Coldplay on our cover, temperatures on the Eastern seaboard touched a hundred degrees. In an attempt to at least try to keep cool in our heads, this week’s Rock List is dedicated to “cold” songs. Let us know what songs with frosty subject matter are your favorites and next week we’ll reveal the Readers’ List of Best Cold Songs. Before we go and commune with the peas in our freezer, check out our picks: GZA - “Cold World” Vanilla Ice - “Ice Ice Baby” Madonna - “Frozen” John Cale - “Antarctica Starts Here” Prince - “Sometimes It Snows in April” [Photo: Getty]

News Ticker: White Stripes, Madonna, 50 Cent, Billy Joel The White Stripes will release a Spanish-language version of “Conquest” as Las Rayas Blancas on February 19th. The “Conquista” single will include an acoustic version of the track backed by a mariachi band, as we reported in November. Madonna hosted a fundraiser at the United Nations last night to raise money for orphaned children in Malawi. Tom Cruise, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Lopez were at the event, which raised $3.7 million. 50 Cent’s G-Unit clothing company is reportedly folding this Friday, though a source tells Allhiphop.com the brand is merely parting ways with its partner. On July 16th, Billy Joel will play the last show at Shea Stadium before the it closes. Tickets for Joel’s performance go on sale February 16th. Fresh off his appearances on Celebrity Apprentice and Ugly Betty, Gene Simmons has announced the third season of Gene Simmons Family Jewels will begin later this year.

Madonna Stopped By Bloc Party Security, Mastodon Guitarist Hospitalized Post-VMAs, Foxy Brown Announces New LP Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke tells the Chiago Tribune that at Live Earth London, Madonna attempted to visit his band backstage, only to be confronted by the group’s security officer, who had no idea who the biggest pop star in the world was. The guard put the Material Mom in a headlock, though Okereke says Madonna escaped quite easily. The singer-guitarist adds he could hear Madonna threatening to “kill” security from the hallway. Yet another VMA-related calamity: Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds has been hospitalized for the past two days with a “severe head injury” after being jumped following his VMAs performance with Foo Fighters. Ludacris and Photobucket.com are teaming up for a “Celebrity Chick” look-alike contest. The competition, in which women are asked to post pictures of themselves trying to impersonate famous female celebrities, will also promote Luda’s newest single, aptly titled “Celebrity Chick.” In what could be a potential boy-band supergroup, *NSYNC’s JC Chasez is writing songs for his former rivals the Backstreet Boys’ new album. We still prefer Sureshot. Newly caged jailbird Foxy Brown will release a new album, Brooklyn’s Don Diva, on November 20th. Brown was recently sentenced to spend a year in Riker’s Island for a whole bunch of broken laws.

Led Zeppelin Announce Reissues, Madonna Collabo Hits the Web, Police Say “Don’t Call It a Reunion” Led Zeppelin will be putting out three reissues starting with a two-disc best-of collection called Mothership on November 13. A week later, their 1976 concert movie The Song Remains the Same will hit stores as a DVD, as will a repackaged version of its soundtrack bolstered with unreleased material. “Candy Shop,” the alleged first cut of the Madonna/Justin Timberlake/Timbaland super-collaboration, has found its way online. The Spice Girls have expanded their upcoming reunion tour following more than 3 million requests for tickets. The Police have added a fourth night in Toronto to their much discussed tour, though guitarist Andy Summers says the band hasn’t reunited, but come together “more like a new band.” Online punks have started a very DIY rumor: that Fugazi will reunite in September. Will Winehouse Ditch Her Next Gig? Get Your Bets In NowBookies are cashing in on Amy Winehouse’s stealth pre-show disappearing acts by taking bets on whether or not she shows up to her next gig. The gambling began when Winehouse cried exhaustion last weekend after soundcheck at T in the Park, but then headed to — no shocker — a pub. Her beehiveness was photographed boozing throughout the evening while crowds were turned away at the gate. So far bookie William Hill is offering half odds that Winehouse plays hooky for her Eden Project performance in Cornwall next Tuesday. In the past, the gambling market has gotten in on predicting band reunions and whether or not Madonna would wind up in the slammer.

The Killers Eye November Release for Third AlbumThe Killers have reportedly been holed in their Las Vegas studio, working hard to ensure their third album is released by November, sources close to the band’s label Island Records tell MTV.com. For their third, still-untitled album (the follow-up to 2006’s Sam’s Town), the band is working with producer Stuart Price, who previously remixed the group’s “Mr. Brightside” and played a large part in crafting Madonna’s Confessions on a Dance Floor. While exact song titles have been kept under wraps, frontman Brandon Flowers hinted at one Aladdin Sane-esque track entitled “Tidal Wave.” [Photo: Getty]
