Disco de Madonna: “Ray of Light [Maxi Single] [Digipak]”
Descripción (en inglés) :
Recording information: 1998. <p>Relentlessly contemporary, RAY OF LIGHT pairs Madonna with producer William Orbit, an electronics wizard who has worked with major R&B acts and even such modern rockers as Blur and Depeche Mode. Reportedly, Madonna tried to snare Liam Howlett of high-strung techno-rockers the Prodigy into the project--Howlett claims to have turned her down. But the more dextrous, less in-your-face Orbit was probably a better choice anyway. He provides a dizzying array of soundscapes, incorporating everything from psychedelic-rock guitar to dub-reggae echo and cold, cutting techno beats for what critics are calling Madonna's most committed performance in years. <p>From the slow chill of the album's first single, "Frozen," to the disco-like title track, RAY OF LIGHT finds Madonna embracing the club beats that are her roots while still teetering on the edge of dance-club vogue. It also finds the singer, who has become a mother since her last studio album, in a long-untapped spiritual mode. When the inevitable comparisons are made to Madonna's previous standard-bearer, 1989's LIKE A PRAYER, that may well be the reason.

- Literally, breathtaking

Madonna has certainly improved with age! Her alto voice, and her choice of recordings within the past few years, have both drastically improved to the point where I've willingly bought both this single and her recording of Evita. The original song is thumping and exhillarating - the remixes are interesting, although they do not, in my opinion, touch the original. The final remix is particularly singular for its operatic overtones. An excellent song for this crazy, rushing world - a ray of hopeful light through the swirling madness.

- Ray of ReMixes

This is the best Madonna single from '98.

The song itself is fantastic, the remixes are itrersting but the track that lifts the dancefloor everytime i play it, is the Calderone remix.

That remix alone, makes this a single an investment!

Buy it, today!

- "Ray of Light": AND I FEEEEEEELLLLLL!!!!!!!

"Ray of Light" (the album) is wonderful. And so is this single. It always reminds me of summer, and it puts me in a good mood. Here is a review and rating of each track:

1. Album Version (5:22) 10/10: Just what it says. A radio edit or even an extended mix would have been nicer, though.

2. Sasha Ultra Violet Mix (10:47) 10/10: I LOVE THIS REMIX!!! It is also interesting to note that this is the first time he ever remixed Madonna. Oh, and did anyone notice that Sasha raised the song's key a little bit? Anyway, Mr. Digweed did a great job!!!

3. William Orbit Liquid Mix (8:08) 10/10: This is my favorite. It sounds like it was made in 1991 instead of 1998. It also very much resembles the album version. I especially like the part where Madge sings "And I feel like I just got home" in OPERA style!

4. Calderone Club Mix (9:29) 9.8/10: I like it, but I don't love it. Don't get me wrong, it's DEFINITELY club-worthy. It's just that it could have been longer, like Mr. Calderone's work on "Music".

One last question: WHY DID THIS GET RELEASED IN TWO PARTS?! Part 2 is EXTREMELY hard to find, and I'm annoyed that it went out of print so early, because the Twilo mix is amazing! Madonna, here's an idea: re-release this (with 8 tracks) in 2008 (10 year anniversary!). Then, everyone will have the complete set of commercial remixes.

- Best Madonna Track in 15 Years

The first and last album I bought by Madonna was her 1983 Sire debut. At the time, it was a breath of fresh air in a steadily stagnating American pop scene. Since then, she has on occasion tended to place greater emphasis upon personality and image at the expense of the music. With this release, Madonna's musicianship returns to center stage. A vibrant and vital piece, "Ray of Light" the single echos with hints of Brian Eno's "Ali Click" and Hawkwind's "Spirit of the Age". As an added bonus, Madonna's vocals have matured light years since her debut -- a fact that is beautifully reflected on this disc. A truly great track that should stand the test of time. This is definitely worth owning.

- A great song with annoying as hell remixes

Dont get me wrong, because the original song on this cd is excellent. Its one of my favorite Madonna songs. But, it did have one faulty...the remixes. The last remix was very good, but the second and third tracks (both remixes) weren't what i thougth they'd be, especially after listening to the excellent Frozen remixes. Please dont assume this is a bad single by reading this thought, as logn as you dont like the same beat being played over and over and over again. By the way, 3 stars is pretty good for a single.
