Disco de Lucy Woodward: “...is Hot and Bothered [Barnes & Noble Exclusive]”

The CD may be entitled "Lucy Woodward Is Hot and Bothered" but perhaps the subtitle should be "and so will you..."

You've more than likely heard Lucy's vocals tugging at you in the background of films and television "movies" and so it should be as her sumptuous voice is a backdrop of tonal delicacies. As a singer/songwriter commonly known for the Top 40 hit "Dumb Girls", released in February 2003, Woodward continued to tour and contribute to various soundtracks eventually scoring a BMI Pop Award for writing the hit single "(There's Gotta Be) More to Life" featured on Stacie Orrico's self titled album.

Now, with the introduction of "Lucy Woodward Is Hot and Bothered" Woodward has obviously found her niche.

With a come hither voice that heralds back to the days of No Doubt when Stephani was interesting, Woodward delivers an array of songs that range from Motown-esque love to dimly lit 1940's nightclub torch tunes that make you think of the days of Sean Connery Bond movies, martini bars and unrequited lovers.

In short, "Lucy Woodward Is Hot and Bothered" is a must have cd for your eclectic collection and let's just hope she keeps channeling whatever has her in a "state of sudden yet subtle arousal" and that she always has a mic nearby.

Lucy Woodward is back with a second album full of soul, funk, torch, and killer pop that will have you listening non-stop. From her amazing voice to her brilliant songwriting skills, this is one artist to keep your eye on. There is not one song in the bunch that will make you press your 'skip' button. She's even better live, so keep a watch out for it. In the meantime, grab this CD - you won't be sorry.

What a devastating release. I listened to this CD time and time again, In hopes that it would grow on me, It never did. Lucy has altered her sound which is the disappointment. It's much too soon in her career to switch things up to this magnitude.

I "just" began to get a feel of who she was through her debut record "While You Can". Which is truly amazing btw. Now suddenly i've been slapped in the mug, the rug has been SNATCHED from beneath me and i'm thrown out in the cold to fend for my self.

I was expecting something along the lines of the debut record, Something with guitars, Something rockier than this, Something a lot more predictable, especially coming from someone who's only on their sophomore release. You're not Madonna, You're not Cher, You're not Janet Jackson, You haven't been around long enough to believe it's time for you to make a change, excuse me?. Master the sound in which you started with first. Then maybe, We can talk about making only "subtle" changes on the 3rd or 4th album, But you're not even there yet.

I can't stress that enough, In my most recent music reviews. The artists of today have issues with being predictable with their music the first few albums of their careers. How else will we get to know who you are and what you're bringing if you keep flipping the script?. If I wanted a Jazzy/Hip-Hop styled album (with the internet) I'd have no problem finding an artist to deliver that sound. It's obvious that Jazz or HipHop was not the sound I was looking for when I clinged to Lucy Woodward with debut album "While You Can".

However, I do appreciate one song titled "You Found Me Out" Which Sounds Like Something "Lesley Gore" or "The Supremes" would've done back in the 60's, Or even "Tracy Ullman" in the early 80's when she was going for a Modern-60's sound. It has that signiture girl-group sound of the 60's, Who doesn't love that?. The rest of the songs have this Jazzy-Bluesy sound with Hip-Hop inspired beats. I don't like this sound at all "What Am I Listening To?".

Lucy's debut record "While You Can" is much more becoming than this "Hot & Bothered" madness. It's fine to experiment as an artist with 1 or 2 songs on your sophomore album or maybe even 3 (Which is pushing it), But to completely remove the sound we knew you for when you're only on your Sophomore album is utterly ridiculous. Your audience will never get a chance to know you for the sound that had them captivated and charmed. This album is not cutting it. Maybe there'll be hope next time. Disgusting!

ALSO BEWARE:

This album was rereleased with a few songs that were re-recorded, The original version of "You Found Me Out" has been re-recorded and DOES NOT, I repeat, DOES NOT sound like the version I mentioned throughout my review. I've been to several websites and this newly recorded version is the only version to purchase. The new version is oversang and pitchy. She shouldv'e left well enough alone. It's unfortunate because I actually need to repurchase the song but every version I come across is this rerecorded version.... Doesn't sound good.

I'm just hooked on Lucy's music. Hot and Bothered is a soft loving CD of great music.
