"My Gods," the second full-length by Sweden's Laakso is a brilliant continuation of their first. For those that are unfamiliar with them (which I'm assuming most of you are), Laakso play one of the most original amalgamations of indierock, pop and folk in the world today. To pick out best tracks would be a sin, as each time I listen to the album different tracks stick out in the ears, but if you're interested in their sound, you can go to their website (www.laakso.nu) and stream the "High Drama EP" which is a great introduction to the bands sound.
This record was easily the best release of 2005, and it's a shame they still aren't as big and revered as they should be.
Laakso is a unique, original, slightly insane band that is depressingly unknown among the general public. My Gods is perhaps their best album (out of three) and nearly every song is a favorite. The one song on the album I'm not sold on is "True Love", which takes Markus Krunegard's signature intimate lyrics out of the realm of interesting and lovable and into the realm of TMI and awkwardness for the listener.
The rest of the songs on the album are well-worth your money, however. My favorites are High Drama (a good song to start with if you're unsure about the band), Someone Somewhere, Right Back At You, and Second Winter.
