What is there to say about Gareth other than he's got it all, a beautiful voice, talent (many of the songs on the Night CD are written by him), charisma, and the image of a pop star. This album is exactly what any popular music lover would want, it's got romantic ballads like Listen to my Heart and Say It Isn't So; and upbeat dance songs like Freak My Baby, Club Hoppin', and Sunshine. Anyone who is a fan of Justin Timberlake, I bet you will like upbeat songs on the album. However, my personal favorite is All Cried Out. I think the strength of this album is definately the variety, there are songs about serious issues, while there are songs that are fun and upbeat. This album has songs that cover almost every emotion you can feel, which makes it easy to relate to the songs and play the song that best fits your mood. With songs like that JT better what out, because Gareth could be the next "Big Thing" to hit North America.
I was introduced to Will Young, the winner of England's pop idol, and finding information about him lead me to discover his runner-up, Gareth Gates. All I can say is that I think the judges must have had a hard time chosing between the two.
Gareth's double disc CD offers a wide range of songs for all tastes. The first CD, entitled Night, is mostly dance type music. While not a huge fan of this genre, I must admit Gareth's vocals were great, and I found myself moving to the music quite a bit.
The second CD is entitled Day, and this is the one that offers more of the pop standard. It was this CD that blew me away with his songs and vocal range. They all showcase his talent and his version of Unchained Melody is perfect. It's not an easy song for anyone to pull off, and Gareth does it flawlessly. I think I like it better than the original. Also, his song, Spirit inthe Sky performed with The Kumars, is totally fun and you can't help but smile.
This collection from Gareth is definitely worth owning, and it's better to hear real Pop Idols sing rather than the mediocre American Idols that are present during this 3rd round of the show. England surely has its share of talent, and it's worth hearing.
It's easy to see why Gareth Gates won Pop Idol. He's got a refreshing voice has a great story overcoming stuttering. After seeing him on an episode of Graham Norton I like him even more.
