this record is a great addition for any eliot smith fan. the song selections are wonderful and in just these three show a good range of smith's emotional styles. beginning with the melancholy and somber speed trials, then on to angeles, a slightly more hopeful song tinged with cynicism and regret. i dont think i'm ever gonna figure it out is more upbeat tempo-wise, but in true smith style, listening closely to the lyrics gives you that combination of energy and complete apathy that only he could produce.
