Disco de Duran Duran: “Live from London [DVD]”

This concert is really good. I'm not a big Duran Duran fan, but I have to say that they put on an excellent show and they sound exactly like their albums.

DVD rating:

Content: 10 out of 10. Every major song was on the playlist, my favorite "Rio" being the grand finale; about 1 hour 30 minutes and 20 songs. There is even a 20 minute documentary on their history.

Sound: 10 out of 10. No flaws - 4 choices of audio, Dolby Digital 5.1, SBS 5.1, Pro Logic, DTS 5.1 (the best of course). It has excellent ambiance, and detailed lows and highs.

Picture: 6.5 out of 10. Despite being advertised as filmed in HD, the transfer had many artifacts at long range. Not all cameras were HD and that was apparent in the transfer. The colors were vibrant and the picture wasn't bad. It is wide-screen aspect.

I plugged in the sub, but forgot to turn it on, and it still had excellent bass. I later tried it with the sub, and thought that I would either have to turn the sub down or not use it at all. I played it between -20 and -18 dbs, and after the concert was over, my ears kinda hurt. It was like actually being at a concert.

As a long time Duran Duran fan (I go all the way back to the beginning) this DVD brings my love for these guys and my memories flooding back. I must admit, when Roger and Andy left the band I lost interest in them as to me is just wasn't Duran Duran without the 5 original guys. Now that they've come back to the fold, well lets just say this DVD truly brings back the passion for performing that they shared. My biggest regret is that I never had the pleasure of seeing them live, but this DVD is almost like being there in the front row. Even if you are just a casual fan I highly recommend seeing it. It will give you a new appreciation for them. Even my 8 year old son loves the DVD. It was great seeing them perform all of their older music (How much do I love New Religion and Careless Memories.. WOW). I hope that they decide to do another tour and it comes back to New England. I will make sure that I don't miss them this time!!

Always a fan of this group, I may be a bit prejudiced when I say this is an awesome CD. The young boys of "Rio" have turned into very handsome men. The band play off each other very well. Very tight. Simon wasn't as animated the first part of the concert, but warmed up as time went on. He is very good with his dance moves, I just wish there were more of them. :+) This CD also has a documentary in which the band members visit memories of their beginning. Very interesting. Well worth your money I'd say.

I saw the theater screening of this DVD in New York, and I'm already a long time Duran fan, but I was surprised and amazed! The London concert was filmed with about 50 small "high density" cameras in all sorts of places...close-ups, zooming shots, above, front row...I'm not even a film expert, but my husband is, and he was very impressed too! If you love their old songs (only two from the new album were played), you'll be dazzled by this concert experience. If you're just a casual fan, you'll be sure to have fun, too.
