Cher Album: “Gold”
Description :
Personnel include: Cher (vocals); Peter Cetera, Sonny Bono (vocals).

A two-disc collection that eclipses THE VERY BEST OF CHER and goes farther into the diva's career than THE WAY OF LOVE, 2005's GOLD follows Cher's studio catalog from 1965 to 2002. Proceeding in (mostly) chronological order, the compilation begins with her folk-rock/pop hits with then-husband Sonny Bono (the sunshiney "I Got You Babe" and the pleading "Baby Don't Go") and weaves through '60s and '70s singles both with and without Sonny. "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" (1971) features Cher in a more dramatic and emotive light, pointing in the direction of the deep-voiced performer's later years.

The second disc presents Cher's return to recording after her '80s work as an acclaimed actress, and includes the Diane Warren-penned hits "If I Could Turn Back Time" and "Love and Understanding," as well as the later techno-tinged dance hits "Believe" and "Song for the Lonely." While THE VERY BEST OF CHER is ideal for those wanting only one disc of Cher hits, the 34-track GOLD is perfect for those seeking a more in-depth overview.

- Turn Back The Time
When I honestly look at divas today, I really seem to see a whole lot when it comes to artyists that trry to sound exactly the same as one or another. Yet, with so many manufactured acts like Kelly Clarkson, Britney Spears, Beyonce', and others, it is just too easy to forget about the real legends that have maintained the test of time. Cher is arguably one of those few. For over forty years, she has came back again and again to re-conjure herself for a whole new generation. Nevertheless, it has continued to work for so many. While she hasn't been able to have a actual reflective collection of her music, now there actually is one to truly believe in.
Cher: Gold, Universal's answer to Sony's Essential packages, is a double album reflection of Cher and her longtime career. The album arguably remains more definitive than many could imagine. There are just so many Cher classics to be showcased here including If I Could Turn Back Time, Half-Breed, I Got You Babe, I Found Someone, Believe and others. This shows her career from Warner Brothers, Geffen, Universal, and other labels. There are just so many greats to offer. Yet, while there are just so many sides to be offered here. There is always a con from each hits package. The album overshadows a few gems Cher has made her own including Love One Another, It's A Man's World, as well as other classics from her days with Sonny Bono.
All in all, Cher: Gold is truly as definitive as Cher has made her statements in music for years. It is just a shame she isn't recording any great music anymore. Nevertheless, her music will continue to turn back time. This is truly the best from someone who still sings for the lonely.

- I Love Cher
I'm a huge fan of this lady. I, along with my parents, watched her television series with and without Sonny, was lucky enough to have her records around and now in my adulthood am able to convert some of those recordings to cd and purchase her later releases. I have her "Turn Back Time" greatest hits, her import hits comp, the "Ultimate Collection" from Hip-o and now "Gold". It may seem a bit redundant to own all these collections but I will keep them all because each collection lacks a song or two that are traded within each other but together make up an excellent comprehensive catalog. "Gold" could have made all other hits collections obsolete by simply including the "exclusive" songs from each seperate hits album on this one project, saving me some collection space. "Love Can Build A Bridge", "Paradise Is Here" and "Walking In Mephis" would have belonged here as would have the album track "Main Man" which had a video shot for it featuring that bagel boy whose name is lost from my memory. The songs are presented chronologically and the mastering is the best so far. The artwork featured on this set differs from the rest of the "Gold" series as this one is really ornate and not the stock white background with an archive photo of the artist(s). While there is room for so much more material this collection is still worth the price here, I've seen it priced elsewhere for $19.99.

- EXCELLENT REMASTER, ORIGINAL VERSIONS, CLEAR SOUND
ALL THE GREATEST HITS OF CHER IN ONE DOUBLE ALBUM, ONLY 16 TRACKS PER CD TO BRING YOU THE SOUND QUALITY THAT A REMASTER DESERVES, "TAKE ME HOME" (FULL VERSION) SOUNDS GREAT, THIS IS THE ONE TO BUY.

- What can you say, she's Cher!
Yes we all know these songs and we know she has other compilation discs out there, but this is CHER! So we are definitely in for the fun ride that is this amazing diva! Cher is one of the few artists who's catalogue never gets tiresome and can be listened to over & over! The woman is ETERNAL! The CD cover art is gorgeous! Whether blond, black, brown or hot pink...Cher (nearing 60) is as sexy as ever!
