This is a reissue of the "Gypsies, Tramps, & Thieves" album (alternate title: "Cher") from 1971, and the MCA compilation set "Half Breed." When I bought my sealed copy of this collection, it was packaged with original MCA discs.
The 1971 album was a departure from Cher's earlier pop/rock, R&B recordings. It was a sophisticated pop, Las Vegas-stylized production, in keeping with her newly-recreated TV image. The ten-song compilation -- all songs recorded in the early 1970s -- boasts three number one singles, a fourth top ten single, and three moderately-successful singles (top fifty).
This collection is definitely worth purchasing. The performances include some of the finest Cher recordings from her "TV" period. Also, the compilation discs boasts four (out of 10) songs from the 1972 "Foxy Lady" album, currently unavailable on compact disc in the U.S. (though it was available in the UK, and some copies can be found of a combination disc of "Cher" and "Foxy Lady" on Amazon's UK site).
