There is no denying that Britney has put out some insanely catchy music over the last five years. She won't ever go down as one of the best vocalists in history, but she sure knows how to get people on the dance floor! "Me Against the Music" is lyrically and musically very similar to 2001's "Slave 4 U." Indeed it's a great party starter, but from a mainstream point of view it's a little stale. This single took off like a rocket on the Billboard Hot 100 when it debuted at #50 based on airplay alone. Radio, and the mainstream listeners, however, got tired quickly when it ran out of steam at #38. Just Britney and Madonna recording together was enough to spark the interest of the public. Great for short term publicity, but really nothing to draw from in the long run. To tell you the truth, I'm still trying to figure out what Madonna's contribution to this track is? Other than to briefly capture the attention of the public, Madge (as the Brits call Madonna) doesn't add any real punch to this record.
Regardless of anything negative being said, the track does have a great beat and clubs will love it for that reason alone. As far as Miss Spears trying to make her way back into the mainstream and reclaim her crown from Christina, "Me Against the Music" won't be carrying Britney to victory anytime soon.
Britney has done such a good job and im so happy to hear this song! Its got a great beat and madonna does a good job being featured in it! Get this CD!
