- Prince said it best on Leno
If we don't start getting behind real musicians, our future in music will be handled by a bunch of computer programers with no real talent.
If you want to hear Ashlee Simpson, buy the CD. If you want to hear Ashlee Simpson "live", by the CD. If you want to hear REAL music, by Musicology by Prince and the NPG.

- unbelievably bad
I can understand how middling performers insulate themselves with sycophants and yes-men so they become out of touch with their own relevance, but I am bewildered by all of the favorable reviews here! This young lady has mediocre talent at best, and anybody with a producer can sound OK with enough tweaking. But is this really the best we can do?
People at the Orange Bowl were right to boo her.
I saw her show on MTV & caught her talking about "Bible stories" (the storyteller was Jewish & trying to explain Yom Kippur).
Ignorance may be bliss, but that was offensive.
We are all dumber for having been exposed to Ashlee Simpson.

- Hitting #1 Means Nothing In My Book
Autobiography(2004). Ashlee Simpson's First Album.
After staying in the shadow of big sister Jessica Simpson and her husband Nick Lache, Ashlee Simpson *felt* it was time to record an album, so she got a TV camera to follow her around showing piece-by-piece how the album was created. Anyways, needless to say, Ashlee Simpson accomplishes little more than her sister when it comes to talent.
Ashlee has a good voice, better than Hilary Duff or Avril Lavigne, yet, her sister is easily the better voice, even if she's mediocre.
Ashlee's back-up band is almost non-existent. Much like Evanescense, Ashlee Simpson had a big oppurtunity to create a good band, yet, with the band selection, both artists sadly picked the most feeble bands imaginable. Simpson's band sounds off-tune and seems to "echo" in the background instead of being part of the group.
Although Ashlee Simpson constantly stated on her show she "didn't want to be like her sister" or sound like "sellout Hilary Duff", Ashlee has failed there. "Fell To Pieces" is about as different as a Hilary Duff song than an electric guitar is to an acoustic guitar: Not much different. Although she sported T-Shirts that had The Doors and The Clash on them, she neither sounds like them or even tries to be like them. In fact, Ashlee Simpson is the same thing as Avril Lavigne, except instead of claiming to be punk she goes for a soft-rock style.
Overall, 'Autobiography' is another attempt be a teen artist to rake in cash, without actually caring about actual talent or song structure. It's sad: Ashlee Simpson has a good voice, and if she'd simply gotten an actual band, instead of some idiots, she could have had potential. Since this album hit #1, many assume it's "a great album", but that's not true. Music doesn't have to be popular to be good, and that's what many teenagers(such as me) don't understand, and that's why this album has been such a big seller. By the way, this album is not "hard rock". I've stated my opinion, and if you don't like it, try to see it from my point of view. If you're a teenager who thinks Ashlee Simpson is a great artist, that's your opinion and I'm fine with it. Just know there are *much* better artists everywhere around you.

- If you buy this album, you're only encouraging her!
Ashlee is your typical dime-store pop star and this album is hyper-produced. I sadly bought this trash on a whim because it was on sale. The tracks all sound alike. Ashlee is clearly trying to copy sound of Courtney Love from Hole. Sadly, she has no talent which shows through the album. The worst part is the tunes are catchy, so you embarass yourself at work or school singing them.
We had to endure her struggling to sing each track on this album, in three-second clips at a time, on her MTV show. Then we had watch her get caught lip-syncing on Saturday Night Live because of, according to her, acid reflux! Then she got what was coming when she got booed following her unbelievably bad performance.
DON'T MAKE YOURSELF ENDURE ANY MORE OF HER WAILING AND DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!

- Waste of money...please read
I suggest you don't buy Ashlee Simpson's album for at least 3 reasons.
1. She is not an actual "artist" or "musician". She is just a corporate tool created by "the devil" (Viacom/MTV) just for one reason, money. The corporate eggheads created her so they can drain money from unsuspecting teenage girls. If you buy this, your just feeding money to corporations that don't deserve it.
2. She has no talent whatsoever. Her performance at the Orange Bowl has to be some of the worst singing I have ever heard and this is coming from someone who has heard at least 3 Yoko Ono albums all the way through. Her performance at Saturday Night Live was even more pitiful. What was up with that hoe-down at the end of the performance? Reminded me of Hee Haw. But then she comes up with tons of excuses for the incident, like blaming her back up band and having acid reflux disease. She could of just said "I have no talent". We all would of believed that.
3. There are so many struggling bands and musicians out there with real talent that are left ignored while talentless acts like Ashlee Simpson get all the attention and airplay from radio and MTV. She is just like Milli Vanilli, except Milli Vanilli could dance.
Don't waste your money on this trash.
Buy something with real talent like the following:
Johnny Cash
Led Zeppelin
David Bowie
Dead Kennedys
Jimi Hendrix
The Cure
Tom Petty
ZZ Top
Primus
Siouxsie & The Banshees
The White Stripes
Pearl Jam
The Beatles
