Disco de Annie Lennox: “The Annie Lennox Collection [TBA]”
Descripción (en inglés) :
If Annie Lennox had only her time in Eurythmics to claim, she'd still be recognized as one of the greatest modern pop and soul singers. In addition however, she has enjoyed massive success as a solo artist. THE ANNIE LENNOX COLLECTION is the first compiled retrospective of this influential Scottish artist's solo hits. It features songs from DIVA, MEDUSA, BARE, SONGS OF MASS DESTRUCTION, even one from the BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA soundtrack ("Love Song for a Vampire"), along with two brand-new tracks. Even the most casual radio listener will recall "Walking on Broken Glass" and "No More I Love Yous," but the often more ambitious and angry songs from DESTRUCTION hold up just as well in contrast.

- get the import

This is a nice but short anthology (14 tracks). The UK import has 8 additional tracks. These are:

Into the West

Ladies of the Canyon

Hush, Hush, Hush

Many Rivers To Cross

Dream Angus

Mama

Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye

Everybody Hurts

The import version is currently available on Amazon UK. It should also be available here on Amazon soon.

- Just get the single disc

I'm not going to review the CD since there will be plenty of reviews for that on the single disc version page. This review is strictly in regards to the packaging and bonus DVD on the limited edition 2 disc version.

First, the packaging on this edition is the same as with the "Songs of Mass Destruction" limited edition. A cardboard gatefold sleeve with the discs loose inside.. no protective sleeves, so they are scratched from the moment you remove them.

The DVD: Video quality is poor. Sound is 2.0 Dolby Digital. There is no "Play All" function and each video is a separate title, so the disc returns to the menu after every video. "Walking on Broken Glass" has been redubbed using the album version, not the proper single mix (resulting in lots of black screen at the end while the song finishes). "Pavement Cracks" is the worst made-up video ever, with static shots of Annie singing the song live, overdubbed with the album version which doesn't match, and to top it off, they left the TCR timecode showing thru most of the video so it looks really stupid.

I can't recommend this version at all.

- A Thousand Beautiful Songs

There may not be a thousand songs in this collection but post-Eurythmics, Lennox has produced 4 albums spanning 15 years with songs that resonates so well with any real music lover. Heartfelt and often introspective, she has come a long way. Collected here are the songs and singles that made it big. From the seminal Why, Walking on Broken Glass, Little Bird to No More "I Love You's" and Wonderful, there's too much to mention. Listen to Why and tell me who the original Diva is. On Songs of Mass Destruction, there's the anthem Sing, a pledge to the AIDS cause featuring a whole host of female artists in pop tody. The videos are nothing short of spectacular except the badly-conjured Pavement Cracks mash-up video. Watch Why, Little Bird and Waiting in Vain and enough is said.

For a true Lennox fan, this collection does not replace the joy of owning each of her 4 albums that offer so much more than you can ever find in music today. My favourite will be "The Saddest Song I've Got" from Bare, "Why" from Diva, "Downtown Lights" from Medusa and "Lost"from Destruction.

For a good summary of Lennox's solo career thus far, The Annie Lennox Collection serves its purpose quite well.

For hardcore fans, go for the British limited edition with a bonus B-sides CD and two extra videos (the two new songs) on the DVD.

- "A Sampler of Annie Lennox's Finest"

Annie Lennox's greatest hits collection contain a good mix of her top hits from the 1990s and the millennium. I remember being introduced to her music as a teenager (through the "Walking on Broken Glass" music video that was shown on VH1). The video is very creative because there are many actors and actresses that are wearing costumes that are affiliated with the nobility of 18th century Europe. The songfacts websites lists that the video is inspired by the "Dangerous Liaisons" movie. Both Annie Lennox and John Malkovich gave good performances in the "Walking on Broken Glass" music video. I am definitely now inspired to check out the "Dangerous Liaisons" film, and the song "Walking on Broken Glass" is fortunately contained in this collection. Disc One contains many of the 90's classics of Annie Lennox and Disc Two contains many of her millennium hits. The third edition is the dvd that features the actual musical videos for the songs. One of the musical tracks that is an additional favorite song and video is "Little Bird" (also on both the cd and dvd). "Little Bird" is about a soul wanting to soar to great heights in life, and transform all obstacles into stepping stones to their dreams. The video to "Little Bird" is fun to watch because there are many people shown playing as Annie Lennox doubles. I also like the costumes and the theme of breaking free via the idea of dancing that is prevalent in the music video. Annie Lennox's greatest hits is best to obtain for those who enjoy any of her songs and/or 90s/millennium music.
